Rhenium powder is generally used as an element additive for superalloys, material coatings, and further processing to produce dense rhenium metal products.

But at 700 °C, it begins to decompose, producing metal rhenium and rhenium heptaoxide. It has inhalation properties, poor volatility, and can form perrhenate by eutectic fusion with alkali in air.
