Rhenium is a very rare and dispersed element, only 10-7% in the Earth's crust. Rhenium is a truly rare element. Its content in the earth's crust is smaller than that of all rare earth elements, only larger than those of protactinium and radium high-purity rhenium powder. Plus it does not form a fixed mineral and is usually associated with other metals. This makes it the last element to be found in nature. Mainly found in molybdenite. Re2O7 obtained from flue dust from smelting molybdenite. Then add KCl, and then reduce it with hydrogen.
Generally, the content of rhenium in molybdenite concentrate is between 0.001% and 0.031%. However, the molybdenum concentrate selected from porphyry copper ore contains rhenium up to 0.16%. The main raw material for the production of rhenium is a by-product of the molybdenum smelting process. Rhenium can be recovered from smelting fumes and slag from certain copper, platinum group ores, niobium ores and even sphalerite as well as in the treatment of low-grade molybdenum ores. The total world production of rhenium in 1978 and 1979 was 7210 and 7260 kg, respectively. The Federal Republic of Germany, Chile, Canada and the former Soviet Union are major producers of rhenium. When extracting rhenium, first extract pure rhenium compound, then use hydrogen reduction method or aqueous solution electrolysis method to obtain rhenium powder, and then use powder metallurgy method to process into material. "
Due to the excellent properties mentioned above, rhenium has become an important material used in many fields.
