Tantalum has moderate hardness and ductility, and can be drawn into filaments to make thin foils. Its thermal expansion coefficient is small. Tantalum has very good chemical properties and is extremely resistant to corrosion. It does not react to hydrochloric acid, concentrated nitric acid and "aqua regia" under both cold and hot conditions.

Tantalum can be used to make evaporating vessels, etc., and can also be used as electrodes, rectifiers, electrolysis, and capacitors for electronic tubes. Medically used to make thin sheets or threads to mend damaged tissue. Although tantalum has strong corrosion resistance, its corrosion resistance is due to the formation of a stable tantalum pentoxide (Ta2O5) protective film on the surface. Tantalum is the fourth most mobile of all metal elements.
Metal tantalum powder, the dense oxide film formed on the surface has the property of unidirectional conductive valve metal. The prepared anode film has stable chemical properties (especially stable in acidic electrolyte), high resistivity, large dielectric constant and small leakage current.
